Visitors to this year's Wisconsin State Fair had the opportunity to try the Krispy Kreme cheeseburger for $5. Reportedly, Krispy Kreme sold out of the 1000-calorie cheeseburgers in a short amount of time. The burgers feature bacon and melted cheese on a world-famous Krispy Kreme doughnut (in lieu of the bun).
Additionally, chocolate-covered bacon can be added for $1 extra. But who would eat this thing? Fair vendors explained that attendees like to try different, unusual foods and are not usually counting fat grams or calories.
The Krispy Kreme cheeseburger was, apparently, an attempt to surpass last year's fair delicacy, chocolate-covered bacon on a stick. Yum.
Believe it or not, the concotion has been around for a few years, known affectionately as the Luther Burger, named after R&B singer Luther Vandross. Rumor has it the donut-cheeseburger creation was one of Vandross' favorite foods - and some versions of the rumor suggest that Vandross invented the dish on a day when he ran out of hamburger buns.
